#Lite: Lessons from Guy and The Louding Voice
Sharing content I’m currently consuming that you might find interesting.
Hi guys,
Hope you are well. I’m doing okay, Alhamdulillah.
Tired, low on energy, but okay. For the past few days, my mind has been fairly preoccupied. There are three or four things that are quite important for me over the next few weeks, and they're taking up all my available brain space.
A friend even recently buzzed me that he was ready for us both to commit to a project I was itching to do about this time last year. But it’s just not the right time. Seemingly basic decisions are now a stretch, and creating time for relatively small asks from my own people is increasingly difficult to do.
Do I feel great about it?
Nope.
Should I worry less and take things easier?
Yep.
Will everybody be alright in the end?
Las las.
As I do not have the energy to write long story, I shall instead defer to sharing content I’m currently consuming that you might find interesting.
What I'm reading
I'm currently reading The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Dare.
It is my first fiction read of the year and I am exactly a hundred pages in. The book tells the story of Adunni, a 14-year-old third wife in a small Nigerian village who is determined on getting an education and becoming a teacher.
I initially found the book off-putting because a lot of the writing is in terrible English, the type you might expect the average uneducated person in a Nigerian village to speak. I thought it was 'over do’ from the author, as she didn't need to write a whole book in terrible English to drive home the point that our fictional heroine had poor grammar.
But after a few pages, I began to find it endearing. The story is very well written and I have chuckled to myself more times than I would have expected. 😅
If you're looking for a very good distraction, then this book is a great candidate.
What I'm watching
I'm currently watching a lecture by Guy Kawasaki to the UC Berkeley MBA class, The Top 10 Mistakes of Entrepreneurs. If you googled Guy, you would probably find that he is a Marketing Specialist, Entrepreneur, Venture Capitalist, and the Chief Evangelist at Canva.
A very interesting guy (pun intended!), he was also one of the brains behind the Apple Macintosh back in 1984, long before Steve Jobs had the reputation he does today.
I really like to learn from people with interesting experiences. And as someone generally interested in the business / venture capital / startup ecosystem, Guy's direct and humorous approach to this topic is quite refreshing. The video is from 9 years ago, and he did say quite a few things that would not be socially acceptable today. 😀
Well worth your time if you are so inclined.
O di next week. Olorun a so wa.
** Jara content:
Those to whom hypocrites said, “Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.” But it merely increased them in faith, and they said, “Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best disposer of affairs.”
Surah 3, verse 173
Have a great week. ✨
Awww I loved the girl with the louding voice 😁
